Last month, 600 delegates from all over the world attended the Eighth World Shakespeare Congress in the Brisbane City Hall.  They came from India, Pakistan, Brunei and Germany.  Many came from the US, Japan and Australia. One delegate came from Yemen.

Is Shakespeare still relevant in 2006?  The kaleidoscope of Nations that attended suggest that he is...............There were discussionsof the high school Shakespeare film genre, of the uneasy relationship between Hollywood dollars and the Bard, and on whether Kenneth Branagh's films make him a Shakespeare auteur or a Hollywood turncoat.  There were posters for a Zulu McBeth.  There was the exhibition of "The Face of Shakespeare" tongue-in-cheek paintings.  My favourite was"Shakespeare being John Malkovich".........
