Statement |
|
1969 |
Having been regarded as a landscape orientated painter for over thirty five years, changing from landscape painting to human figure painting required a complete turn around in the way Ted May conceived his work and approached the canvas. Painting and rendering forms is very different to creating the illusions of space, which are apparent in his landscapes and, in order to realise these images, Ted worked through a series of seventy large (7'x5') charcoal drawings on paper and film. These works became the basis for his figure paintings, which continue to develop at a rapid pace, and are the focal point of the John Miller Galleries Exhibition.
